In November 1988, five men seeking an outlet for their musical
ambitions were brought together by their common history of
membership in college glee clubs. They formed a loose-knit
group, and after many hours of discussion, finally settled
on the name we use today, Measure for Measure. Auditions
were held the following January 1989, and produced a charter
membership of seventeen enthusiastic men. Measure for Measure
performed its first concert in April 1989, and has since
grown to well over ninety voices.
Measure for Measure was founded to provide an opportunity
for experienced singers to perform music composed and arranged
for male voices. The repertoire incorporates selections from
many different musical styles and periods. Chorus members
come from all over southeast Michigan and range in age from
twenty one to eighty. Drawn from a wide variety of occupational
backgrounds, they share a dedication to the choral art and
the group. Under the direction of Dr. Leonard Riccinto, M4M
has performed throughout the nation and internationally from
its home in southeast Michigan. Measure for Measure has competed
at the prestigious International Musical Eisteddfod at Llandollen,
Wales, and performed at the Elora and Stratford Festivals
in Canada.
The group celebrates their fifteenth season with a new recording.
